We had another excellent guest speaker, this time it was Acting Inspector Phil Malligan from Wagga Police. Phil told us about his time with the NSW Police and especially on his roll as White Ribbon ambassador. Phil is passionate about Domestic Violence in the Wagga Local Area Command and spoke highly about the Wagga Woman’s Refuge.
“Wagga police respond, on average, to between 10 and 16 domestic violence incidents every 24 hours”
Just days after Phil spoke with our club, this appalling story was published in the Wagga Daily Advertiser re-enforcing his views. To read the full story click here
Acting Inspector Malligan told us about how the RAAF and Army were getting board with white ribbon day and aiming to stamp out domestic violence and the vilification of women in the armed forces.
He also spoke about the Wagga LAC facebook page and how social media has become a great tool in policing both for raising awareness but also tracking down crooks.
Phil’s main reason for talking to us was to promote the Wagga White Ribbon Gala Ball coming up on the 25th of November. All funds raised from this great event go to White Ribbon Australia and Wagga Women’s health centre.
Tuesday the 11th October we had a great roll up at Beer Deluxe with three visitors. Our speakers for the night were our very own Hayley Gollash and Jenny Lovekin who reported back on their recent Rotary Facebook training in Young. We learnt all about the wonders of Social Media and how boosting posts can reach many new people. We discussed ways to increase our followers and reach new audiences.
