REPORT RYLA 2013
RYLA 2013 was held on April 8-13 at Camp Kurrajong Wagga Wagga. It proved to be another successful week, the Murrumbidgee Rotary Club have achieved a great outcome and should be immensely proud of the result.
There were 32 participants with 20 clubs (half the District) sending one or more to Wagga Wagga for what is surely one of Rotary’s flagship events.
All the participants claimed the week at CampKurrajong to be a life changing event. They listened to speakers, regarding leadership, self awareness, mental health, goal setting, workplace behaviour, community service, and they attended Kapooka Army Base for one day, with most them abseiling down a 30 metre tower. Marilyn and I came home after a week as camp “Mum and Dad” exhausted, but exhilarated and we feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to have an impact on these young lives. We are proud of every participant.
So many of the Rylarians unashamedly express their thanks and appreciation they feel for the opportunity that RYLA has given them to develop leadership skills and grow in self confidence and belief. I would like to offer you one of the many quotes that touched us all, from 2013 Rylarian,
“Hey everyone,I just read my warm and fuzzies and loved them all!Thankyou for an awesome week and for changing my life.I don`t think I`ve ever had a better and more productive week than this week and I don`t think I`ve ever achieved so much in such a small amount of time.It has possibly the most important and life changing week of my life.I`ve come away from RYLA having learnt so much from you all and with a new found confidence and direction in life.I think I`ve been able to let go of things that were holding me back and focus on moving forward and being everything I can be in many different areas of my life.Words can`t express how much I`ve gained this week and I know it`s been said before by others but this week has really changed my life!I hope to keep in touch with you all and meet you all again!Thankyou all so much!!!”
This comment has been echoed by every participant of this year’s camp. Rotary is to be congratulated on it’s commitment to the Youth of Australia, with this and other youth programmes. Thankyou to all the clubs who supported RYLA this year.
Next year RYLA will be held at CampKurrajong on March 31 – April 5.
